Tax Case Win - 'Best Present Ever'.22 December 2008The decision by the European Court of Justice which recognises Gibraltar Government´s ability to set its own tax rates and system was hailed by the Chief Minister Peter Caruana as a comprehensive victory. With The Rock averting a financial and political catastrophe and the result is, he said, "hugely" positive for Gibraltar, economically, socially, politically and constitutionally.
The decision which has been pending since August 2002 rejects the argument that Gibraltar should have been treated as a region of the UK in matters of tax (Regional & Material Selectivity) and this is very welcome news to the business community as a whole.
