Monchi heads up the Shipping and Admiralty team and also forms part of the Commercial and Litigation Departments.
Monchi was a key part in the development and establishment of Gibraltar as a go to jurisdiction for the arrest and sale of ships, making Gibraltar a leading jurisdiction in this field. Monchi undertook the most noted arrest in Gibraltar: concurrent arrests and sales of seven cruise liners by private treaty. These arrests established Gibraltar as the pioneer jurisdiction for the carrying out of arrest and sale of vessels by private treaty that was subsequently adopted by other jurisdictions, notably Malta, Hong Kong and Singapore. Monchi also carries out extensive ship registration and finance work.
In addition, Monchi is an experienced commercial litigator having acted in various commercial disputes, including shareholder disputes, insolvency, and regulatory cases on behalf of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission.
Monchi is rated Band 1 for Sipping & Admiralty work by Chambers and a leading individual in Shipping by the Legal 500. He is also admitted to practice as a Spanish lawyer being a member of the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Cadiz.
