Called to the Bar in 1976, Robert became a QC in 2012.
He retired as a partner in July 2017 but continues to practice as a consultant.
His main practice areas are financial services, taxation, insolvency and commercial/financial services litigation. Expert in the corporate and commercial legal and banking and finance sectors.
Robert was instrumental in devising and drafting the Income Tax Act in order to ensure successful compliance with EU State Aid rules. Robert is often engaged by clients in confidential regulatory issues raised by the GFSC.
He was engaged in long and protracted litigation in various actions defending claims brought in Gibraltar by Irving Picard the Trustee in Bankruptcy of Bernard l Madoff Investment securities LLC.
He is a former member of the Financial Services Commission and has previously been Chairman of the General Council of the Bar in Gibraltar, Member of the Financial Services Commission, Member of the Admissions and Disciplinary Committee for lawyers, member of the Gibraltar Deposit Guarantee Board, Gibraltar Finance Centre Council, Tax Reform and Revenue Working Group and Legislation Advisory Committee.
He is also an active member of the Association of European Lawyers. He is described as providing “an outstanding level of service” and as “an extremely thorough individual”.
