Chico is a member of the Dispute Resolution department and heads up the personal injury and intellectual property teams. Chico is internationally recognised as a leading litigator in Gibraltar by directories such as Legal 500. He is also a member of the Shipping and Admiralty department.
His experience in personal injury litigation is extensive and he is primarily instructed by Insurers and organisations such as the MIB in the defence of claims. He is able to advise on all matters of personal injury litigation arising from road traffic accidents, accidents at work involving alleged breaches of health and safety legislation, employer’s liability cases alleging stress at work, and other cases involving alleged psychiatric injury. Chico has experience in complex high value brain injury cases and has acted in cases involving highly technical evidence in relation to the applicable discount rate in Gibraltar for the assessment of future damages.
Chico’s experience extends to clinical negligence where in addition to defending claims against practitioners and clinics he has acted for claimants in cases with complex issues of liability and causation.
Aside from personal injury, Chico is capable of advising in all matters of civil litigation and has advised on high value construction disputes both for the developer as well as the construction company with effective results. He also has experience in contentious probate claims and regularly deals with non-contentious applications for grants of probate and letters of administration
In addition, Chico’s experience extends to applications to the Court of Protection for the appointment of deputies both, in respect of management of property and affairs of patientsas well as, the appointment of guardians in respect of vulnerable adults.
As the head of the firm’s busy intellectual property and trademark practice Chico is responsible for filing a large number of non-contentious applications and as well as advising in relation to the maintenance and enforcement of rights. Chico advises both in relation to non-contentious and contentious IP matters.
